Amtrak ADA Stations Program – Gainesville, GA
The Gainesville, GA, Amtrak station project ensures ADA compliance by renovating the station building and exterior to meet accessibility standards.
Station Building: The renovation team removes selective materials in restrooms and waiting areas, salvages reusable components, and replaces entry doors with ADA-compliant steel doors. Workers reposition restroom fixtures to compliant heights and install new accessories and electric door actuators. Amtrak-approved signage improves accessibility throughout the interior.
Station Exterior: Crews implement erosion control measures, remove concrete and asphalt, and excavate for the platform and walkways. They construct a new ADA-compliant reinforced concrete platform with detectable warning surfaces, underdrains, storm piping, and grated trench drains. Additional improvements include installing new signage, painted steel bollards, galvanized guardrails, and lighting while relocating the Wheelchair Lift Enclosure (WCLE). Enhancements to parking areas, ramps, walkways, and underground utilities finalize the project, creating a fully accessible and modernized facility.
