Amtrak MACC - Charleston, WV - Station Renovations

Charleston, WV

Charleston Amtrak station was initially opened in 1905 and is recognized as a historic local landmark and listed on the National Historic Register. Amtrak services over 11,000 passengers annually at this station, and GAC had the difficult task of keeping the station and adjoined restaurant fully operational during construction. The Charleston Station is located under the S Side Bridge, providing access across the Kanawha River and along a heavily traveled state highway (MacCorkle Ave, Route 61). GAC met logistic challenges using creative, strategic planning, and sequencing. The renovations included a complete ADA-compliant upgrade, modernization of its station interior, and updates to its mechanical systems and were delivered four months ahead of schedule.
