Amtrak MACC - Hammond / Whiting, IN - Station Renovations
The Hammond-Whiting passenger station needed several upgrades to meet the standards of the ADA Station and The State of Good Repair programs. Project improvements included the construction of a new level boarding platform with detectable compliant warnings, two new structural steel canopies, accessible parking and walkway, the installation of accessible station signage, and new entrance doors. GAC updated the station’s interior with accessible modifications to the baggage counter, restrooms, and new companion seating in the waiting room. George Allen Construction created a site logistical plan that effectively reduced the project schedule to two phases while maintaining passenger access and, in turn, accelerated the project’s completion date. GAC also provided innovative shoring and excavation solutions, resulting in owner savings.
