Norfolk Southern – New Car Shop

The New Car Shop project included constructing a 31,200 SF single-story precast concrete & pre-engineered metal building set on spread footings, including metal wall panels and a metal roof system. The construction involved the installation of a 5-ton overhead gantry crane, in-floor jacking systems, jib cranes, fall protection system, stormwater system, utility holes, and sanitary piping. We installed several systems to enhance operational efficiency, including power and welding receptacles and oxygen and compressed air distribution systems for air-powered tools and welding. We performed boring directional operations beneath existing tracks to bring natural gas piping to the building. GAC completed this project ahead of schedule, and the facility expanded the maintenance and repair capabilities of the Elkhart Yard.
